Building a Collective of Creatives

In an old brick parsonage, standing in the shadow of a historic church, just a block off the Square in downtown Gainesville, Art Colony Georgia has happily built its nest. It's a creativity magnet, renting studio space on the cheap to artists, designers, teachers, students and seekers. Started only 7 years ago, the Art Colony now hosts 22 artists, with a lively environment of working artists and fine art classes. We opened the doors on Oakley Gallery, our collective gallery located inside an adjacent antique market, in Fall 2018.

This Art Colony, the 5th of a series organized by artist and teacher Sara Alyn Oakley in other states, has all the essential elements required to provide an ongoing source of renewable creative energy: over 3,000 square feet of great light, tall ceilings, hardwood floors, a generous covered porch, music and a coffee pot.

There are 22 studio spaces in the studio and 24 gallery positions, that fill within hours of becoming available. People who rent a studio can teach, meet clients, or just work whenever they feel like it. This place is a sanctuary, pure and simple.
